my new puppy

I have a new puppy and he is so so perfect!! We hadn't decided on a name for him his first few days in our home, and we resorted to calling him puppy, which he has accepted as him name. Though, he is now our little Idefix or Eddie as we will most usually call him as we are worried that his name, taken from a puppy in the French comic book Asterix, may be confusing to those not familiar with its inspiration. Anyways, he is the cutest, has the greatest personality, and is already my new best friend. The Cronquists really have good luck with dogs, don't we?

So, a little about my little guy Eddie.

Likes:
Playing in the grass
Sleeping upside down
Snuggling
Chewing on everything
Trying to eat  flowers and grass
Running around
Being adorable all the time

Dislikes:
Being ignored
Going to bed without a cuddle buddy
Leashes

Only an hour after me and Eddie had met and we were already in love. But, I mean look at that little guy. How could you NOT be in love!!

Eddie was pretty tentative about the grass when we first let him outside. After 12 weeks of experiencing only the indoors and a back porch, this stuff was a little weird. Though, he has become a fast fan of chewing grass, rolling in grass, romping through the grass, etc.

Eddie and I have grown accustomed to taking naps together. This is probably an absolutely terrible habit that I am forming in him. I guess I have no one to blame but myself that I had to get up with him every few hours last night to help him go back to sleep. What can I say? We both like to snuggle.

Another favorite activity of ours is playing outside together. We love love love romping in the sunshine.

I've always grown up with a dog in the house, so the last few months without our sweetie Blizzard have been tough. It's nice to have someone following me around again and greeting me at the door. Eddie is by no means a replacement for the love we had for out last dog, but a whole new creature to spend our time adoring. Animals are such an incredible gift to the world and Eddie is already filling my life with laughs and joy. (But seriously, this dog cracks me up all the time, he is a ham.)
Here's to the newest member of our family and years of enjoying each others snuggles.

my day of pies and puppies

This week Provo has finally gotten its act together. It made its way all the way up to the 60s this week, and after a long Utah winter, I think we were all ready for this. It reminded me of the first spring day in Paris last winter semester when I was studying abroad. One day, the sun came out and all of the sudden everyone else did too. It was one of my favorite days in Paris. Everything felt so alive after a winter of hibernation, and the city was in full bloom. BYUs campus emitted a very similar reaction with an outburst of spring clothes, studying on the lawn, and finally the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities without wearing everything you own. Though, I won't lie to you, putting away my boots for the the summer is always very upsetting to me (I have a secret wish that I will get to wear them just a few more times). Weird fact about me, I hate sandals. I'm on the hunt for a pair that I like, they must exist somewhere out there??

Anyways....this week, the highlights were puppies and pie. How could you go wrong with a week that included sunshine, puppies, and pie? You cannot. You simply cannot.

I've made pies for Thanksgiving before, but this was my first "experimental pie." To play into the summery feeling I decided to make a strawberry pie. It was really good. I found the recipe online (here) when I was searching around and figured I would give it a try (I will admit though that I cheated and used a store bought crust, but I don't feel guilty about it). I made this pie on Thursday 3/14 in honor of Pi Day (3.14 get it?). This holiday is the one good thing that has ever come out of math (ok, maybe there are a couple other uses for that voodoo magic you people call math, but I just won't worry abut those).

As a lovely little treat on Pi Day, there was also an event down by BYUs duck pond where you could play with puppies. Obviously, Hilary and I had to stop by. Someone asked me a little while ago what I was most looking forward to about having my own house one day, and the first thing that came to mind was getting my own dog. After more thought about the question, I am sticking to my answer. Dogs are the greatest. Can't wait till I have a life that is suitable for me to get my own puppy!

Hopefully your weather is warming up too. If not, wear your boots while you still can, you don't have much time left! And if you get the chance this week eat some pie and pet a puppy; you won't regret it. Both things bring the greatest kind of joy.

peace. love. and pie.

my goodbye to the best dog ever

I can't quite figure out how to put this, but my sweet doggy, Blizzard, died last weekend. It was tough to hear especially since I was away at college for his last years, but I still miss the little guy like crazy. He was honestly the best dog anyone ever could of hoped for. It is probably one of the most vivid memories from my six year old days of going and picking him out at the puppy farm and contemplating names on the way home. He was a sweet heart when we got him and a sweet heart when he moved on, and I can't imagine what it is going to be like to go home and not have him there. I've been thinking of all my best memories of him this past week. He was one of those dogs that even people who didn't like dogs liked. Bless his heart for always being filled with nothing but love. You are about to get overloaded with pictures of the best little doggie in the world, and I give no apologies for it.

Just look at him. He always looked like a q-tip right after he got a haircut...

Makes sense that he loved the snow. His name was Blizzard after all.

Literally one of my favorite pictures ever. Blizzard wasn't actually allowed on the furniture...woops.

See. The little guy was a part of the family.

Buddy, I'm really sorry about that one time that I stacked all your toys on you when you were trying to sleep. But it was funny, don't ya think?

Well. Here's to the best dog ever. I'm sure that my pet rat Samantha and him have become good friends in heaven...you know now that Blizzard doesn't want to eat her.

Wish I could have just one last snuggle with my best friend Blizzard.

peace. love. and Blizzard
