my Indian American celebration

The fourth of July is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite holidays. I know that I am passionate about seeing the whole world and traveling all over, but I always know where  home is, and that is the beautiful United States of America. I am so incredibly grateful to be from such a blessed nation. I have been thinking a lot about what it is that I love most about America and one of the things that comes to mind is the ability to be anything. I don't really mean that in the "American dream" sense, I'm more thinking of being crazy, loud, quiet, happy, sad, funky, demure, I don't know, whatever it is there is a group just like you in America that will accept you and celebrate you. I mean, what other country would Lady Gaga possibly fit into?

Well, even though I wasn't in America for the 4th of July, that doesn't mean that I didn't do it big. If you know me, you know that I love holidays. I brought an American flag bandanna just so that I would be able to wear it on the 4th. I also found the most red, white, and blue chudidar that I could find to make my look complete. I spent most of my day getting the elephant house ready for the party that we had last night with some of the kids. We let seven kids buy the chance to come to an "American party" from their star store (the kids earn stars throughout the week to spend in a Rising Star star store). We had India's version of chicken fingers, french fries, corn on the cob, chips, fruit salad, vegetable salad, some Indian hot dogs, and of course red rice, and curry. It all finished off with some ice cream that turned into an ice cream fight thanks to my punk little brother Joseph.

This is Vimal on the left and Deepen on the right. Deepen changed into a red, white, and blue shirt for our party (easy to see why we get along so well).

The results of the ice cream fight. This is the first picture that you are seeing of my little brother Joseph, but he is covered in ice cream...so it's hard to really see him.

To top off my day....or bottom. I had Callie put a little "made in America" henna on my foot.

I love America. I love India. I love the 4th of July.

Also. Shout out to my big sister Diane. It is her birthday today :)
I love her too.

peace. love. and America.
