my welcome back

India is hot. Really hot. That is the first thing that I was reminded upon my return to India. But, on my drive from the airport to the hotel I was reminded of one of my favorite things about India, every moment here is an adventure. Driving in particular since there seems to be a complete lack of any driving rules or structure to the roads here, except for perhaps, whoever has the louder bigger horn has the right of way.
After having a last hurrah in my hotel room with a huge comfy bed, a real shower, and a western toilet, I was picked up by the Rising Star Outreach van and whisked to the Rising Star campus. My jobs have begun instantly as I will be filling in for the medical coordinator (who won't arrive for a few weeks) during the BYU nurses session. This is a somewhat daunting task, mostly  because I (a science and math fearing English major) will be expected to lead a group of training nurses in performing medical tasks...fake it till you make it, eh? I met with the doctor today to go over procedures and will head out to the colonies with her tomorrow to do a little bit of training, but after that I think I am kind of on my own. I was looking over the schedule and had a bit of a oh I'm really doing this moment when I noticed that a lot of the days the groups were split between colonies and when I asked her how this was going to work, she said "Well do you have a clone? Cause if not then, I'm going to take a group to one colony and you are going to take a group to the other." right. Guess it's time to whip out my leadership skills.
We have a saying here "This is India." You learn very quickly that when things go wrong, everything seems insane, or even when things are just plain weird all you can do is laugh and say "TII." This is definitely a place were you learn to go with the flow and that is exactly how I plan on getting through the next 3 weeks as the "stand in medical coordinator."

peace. love. and wish me luck
