the joys of words

Today I had the lovely privilege of hearing from two wonderful people. The first was Russel M. Nelson....

and the second Julie B. Beck.

What a privilege to hear messages from two wonderfully Christ-like people in one day. I was able to hear Elder Nelson at my stake conference this morning and Sister Beck at a stake Relief Society Fireside this evening.
I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to hear them today, and as I flipped through my notes in my "Spiritual Journal" I saw notes from talks of apostles and highly respected members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (http://www.lds.org/) and realized how amazing it is that I get to hear from these people IN PERSON while I am at BYU. Darnit. No wonder we Mormons love this place.
So the most powerful points from each talk (at least for me)...

Elder Nelson: "Link arms with the Savior. Know Him. Love Him." He encouraged us to look up Jesus Christ in the topical guide and than spend a week on each subtopic getting to know Christ.

Sister Beck: "The most important skill you can develope is to learn to recognize and obey the spirit."
and "When your priorities are out of order you lose power" so align yourselves with the Lord.

Of course their talks included many uplifting and insightful messages, but those were just little tid bits highlighting what stood out to me. Hope they strike you too.
